Yanmar's America's Cup Legacy Continues

The America’s Cup is in full flight, and during the late-night coverage, you might have spotted the Yanmar logo. As it happens, Yanmar has a long history of involvement in the America’s Cup, both as a sponsor and supplier of marine engines. During the 33rd and 34th competitions, Yanmar engines powered Oracle Team USA’s chase boats—enabling them to keep pace with the 50kph+ racing yachts. In the current edition now happening in Barcelona, Yanmar is showcasing its “Green Challenge 2050” technology, supporting Emirates Team New Zealand with a next-level hydrogen fuel cell foiling chase boat. This represents green, sustainable power at its finest. Otherwise, GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND!!!

Yanmar goes electric!

In line with Yanmar’s Green Challenge comes its first electric propulsion system, the E-Saildrive - aimed at making emission-free sailing more accessible. Unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival and Newport International Boat Show, this innovative system features a 'plug and play' platform that neatly integrates the motor, controller, gear, and cooling system for hassle-free installation.

The E-Saildrive comes in three models - SDe7, SDe10, and SDe15 - delivering up to 15kW of power for sailboats under 40ft, depending on the application and displacement. It's designed as a direct drop-in replacement for Yanmar's popular YM engines, requiring no hull modifications. This makes it ideal choice for both new builds and retrofits.

At the helm of the E-Saildrive is an advanced control system featuring a 4.3" optically bonded TFT display. This screen boasts IPX7 waterproofing and an anti-fog coating, ensuring clear visibility in all conditions. And the sleek alloy control heads, available in side or top mount options, add a touch of modern design to any cockpit.

It's a system that caters to both novice and experienced sailors, and to find out more, please get in touch.
